Susan Newman

Continue Reading D. Susan Newman was born in Ontario, Canada, to English parents who didn’t want her. They also viewed believing in God as “ridiculous” and “a pathetic crutch.” Susan spent an unhappy childhood in England and British Columbia, Canada, attending sixteen different schools. She dropped out of school at age fourteen and went to work as a housecleaner. At age seventeen, she returned to England and attended High Wycombe Technical College to study music and English. She later obtained secretarial qualifications and worked with government entities in the UK, eventually establishing a very successful business of her own.

In 1990, as the result of a series of supernatural events, Susan became a Christian. God sent her on a mission to China, even though she was totally new to the Christian life and felt unequipped for the rigors that lay ahead. But Susan knew two things: that God loved her and that she could hear Him speaking to her. Over the years, God dealt with many issues in her life as He enabled her to lead thousands of Communist-reared Chinese to the Lord. She also helped them understand the importance of laying down their bitterness and resentment and allowing God to heal their hearts. Additionally, she came alongside abandoned and orphaned children in a state orphanage. Susan lived in China for seven years, working as a university English teacher, before being arrested and deported.

Since 2002, Susan has lived in Tainan, Taiwan, the People’s Republic of China, as a missionary/pastor with the Assemblies of God. She plays the guitar and also ministers on keyboard at church. She loves gardening, cooking, exploring new places, and creating and restoring all kinds of items. She enjoys riding her 150cc motorbike and out-accelerating any young person at Tainan’s traffic lights. Susan has three children and eight grandchildren.
