Valerie Van Wingerden
Five of the best years of Valerie Van Wingerden’s life were spent at Cedarville University, where she earned degrees in Sociology and Spanish. Her background in Sociology enabled Miss Van Wingerden to understand the dynamics of male/female interaction and her skills as a poet provided an avenue to explore her emotions regarding dissatisfaction with her personal life. Her disappointments could have led to self-doubt and self-pity, but Valerie does not allow that because she is admittedly too stubborn to give in to societal pressure (in and out of the church).
She also believes that women should judge themselves by God’s standards, not by artificial measurements set up by friends, family, or society, or even well-meaning church goers. Miss Van Wingerden now resides in northern rural Illinois and is employed by an office of a plant nursery.
